Historical Pune City
Pune District is situated in Maharashtra state of India. Pune city is the district headquarters. In the last census on 2001, the total population of the district was 7,232,555. Urban population comprises 58.08% of the total population.[1] The current population of Pune urban agglomerate is over 4 million.
Nigdi (Marathi: निगडी) is a suburb of Pune, India. It is about 18 km from Pune Station on the old Mumbai- Pune Highway. Nigdi is towards the northern tip of Pune.
Kasturba Gandhi Smriti Mandir
This beautiful building with salons and suites, is a great historical landmark. It was here that Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders of the Indian National Congress were imprisoned during the 1942 Quit India Movement. Here lies the samadhi of Kasturba Gandhi, the Mahatma's wife.
National Defence Academy
The National Defence Academy is located south-west of Pune City and north-west of Khadakwasla Lake on 7015 acres of land, out of the 8022 acres donated by the Government of the erstwhile Bombay State. The other suggested sites were Bombay (particularly Marve), Bangalore, Dehradun, Belgaum, Bhopal, Deolali, Jabalpur, Nasik, Puri, Secunderabad and Vizag.
Film & Television Institute of India
The Television Wing, earlier located at the Mandi House, New Delhi, shifted to the Institute campus at Pune during the early seventies so as to bring together training in film and television under a common roof, thereby justifying the name of the Institute – the Film and Television Institute of India. This wing of the institute has been primarily concerned with conducting in-service training to personnel from Doordarshan.
Rajghad Fort
This is the very heart of Maratha country -- Raigad, the capital of Shivaji's kingdom. This was here that Shivaji built his capital city in the 14th century, and here that he crowned himselfClick here for big view - Raigad for mahadarvaja Chhatrapati. For six years upto his death, Raigad remained the capital of the Marathas with its broad gates and magnificent monuments.
